Dear You leans on nonprofessional performers in a way that feels grounded rather than showy. Before shooting, Lan Hongchun visited nearly 300 Chinese households, and the team traveled more than 80,000 kilometers to find locations and historical materials. That long look at family routines, migration memory, and local speech gave the cast concrete behavior to work with in front of the camera.
